MINDFULNESS BASED INTERVENTIONS.
What are Mindfulness Based Interventions?
Mindfulness is the path to personal awareness, mental focus and emotional well being. At its simplest, mindfulness is ‘moment-to-moment awareness’ - knowing what you are doing while you are doing it. Jon Kabat-Zinn, the pioneer of mindfulness applications in Western medical settings, defines mindfulness as ‘paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally’.
Participants will learn the principles of mindfulness energy management, stress release, mental focus and empowerment through mindfulness practices, meditation and Qigong (Chi Kung) movements. Such practices develop awareness, emotional stability and physical well being.
Meditation
Meditation is one of the main tools to access the state of mindfulness and various practices will be introduced to the group. Participants will be taught focused and guided meditations in both active and passive forms. These meditative practices develop the participants’ ability to calm the mind, reduce mental tension and encourage feelings of centeredness, embodiment and focused awareness.
Breath-Work.
Participants will explore different styles of breath-work such as abdominal breathing, reverse breathing, solar plexus breathing and whole body breathing to relieve tension and anxiety and bring about bodily awareness and well being.
Chi Kung
Chi Kung is the Chinese term for energy development. This ancient practice has Taoist, Buddhist and Confucian roots. It is the basis of Traditional Chinese Medicine and all of the martial arts. It is considered to be the highest of the energy based practices because of its ability to restore and raise physical energy as well as calm and focus the mind.
Chi Kung is introduced and taught experientially though simple forms, movement and standing and walking meditations. After only a few weeks practice it is possible to experience increased energy, an improvement in balance and posture as well as improved feeling of relaxation and groundedness and embodiment.
